When I was in youth symphony back in high school, the clarinet section went through a phase where we tied our reeds onto our mouthpieces with "silk rat-tail" cord. We'd get a 2-to-3 foot length of the stuff, and every time we changed (or adjusted) your reeds, we'd have to re-wind the cord and tie it off. Changing a reed took, I dunno, about 25 minutes, so we'd conveniently miss all of the hard A clarinet parts to Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. But we were cool as hell, weren't we?

I learned how to tie a string (shoelace) ligature many years decades ago when I was playing for a time in Austria (I play on French system clarinet). It's actually quite easy to do if you do it correctly. But the Vandoren Klassik ligature is just as good and maybe, in terms of ease of use and practicality, even better. I think it allows for more vibrations than most other metal and fabric ligatures I've tried. Some people think it's not as secure as other lirguatres but I find it holds the reed just fine and never slips off. Also, it works well with plastic (Legere) reeds as well as with cane.
For the price it’s definitely worth investigating this lig. I’m using with the corrado for a nice open warm chamber sound. To move up from this color I have to get very spendy as in my ishimori.
