With a smaller tip opening and shorter facing than the B40/B44 Eb clarinet mouthpiece, the Vandoren 5RV provides more control yet surprised us with its free-blowing nature. We found success pairing this with a Vandoren 3 Traditional, V12, or V21 Eb clarinet reed.
TRIALS?
Now, many folks allow for trials of mouthpieces. With Vandoren mouthpieces, I don't. Why? (Is it because I'm a jerk? No.) Vandoren's manufacturing and hand-finishing process is so well-oiled, so consistent, that every mouthpiece of the same model is essentially the same.
That said, if you'd like to return it, I can accept it and sell it as used, however there is a $30 restocking fee to cover the reduction in value of the mouthpiece.
You simply cannot go wrong with Vandoren, and it's a great value.

Good quality, as expected from Vandoren, but it just isn't the Eb mouthpiece for me. Ordered it because it's a little more closed than their B40, which is what I'm playing on most of the time now. It think it's the shorter length of lay that makes it not work for me. I'll keep it as a possible back up m/p. I'd still like to find something a bit more closed than the B40 but with a similar length of lay (Yamaha 4C is too closed).
