Marcus Bonna Double Case for Bass Clarinet (Low C) and Clarinet [earspasm edition]
Marcus Bonna Double Case for Bass Clarinet (Low C) and Clarinet [earspasm edition]
Cases in your favorite crayon colors!
I love this case. Why? Because in a sea of black instrument cases, my yellow bass clarinet case is like a beacon of joy. Plus I can find it quickly backstage. It's like a highlighter pen. (And hey, if a black case is your color preference, I've got that, too.)
Here's the back-story: A few years ago I reached out to André and Marcus Bonna in Brazil, and asked if they could custom make a case for me that would suspend the bass clarinet from the case on all sides.
Why? Because I don't want keys touching the case.
Why? Because I don't want the keys to go out of adjustment from the pressure and jostling that occurs when carrying the instrument around.
Why? Because I like saving money on repair costs.
Why? Because I like beer.
The result is this double case that holds a Low C Bass Clarinet and a Bb (or A, or Eb) clarinet and a couple extra barrels and an extra bass clarinet neck and my tablet and my Macbook and some sheet music. It's also modular, so if you want to NOT take your clarinet, you can configure the case differently. It's pretty cool.
I'm also delighted to report that these cases are proudly made using 100% Renewable energy.
If you're interested in a color combination that you do not see here, let me know and I can order something TOTALLY custom for you. (See below for color options.) I order cases every month, and the production time is about 75 days from the date of order.
Important Note: This case will not fit instruments that have the Low C key on the bottom joint (rather than the bell). This only affects certain Buffet bass clarinets from the early 1990s, but check your instrument to be sure!
Also, as of this writing (January, 2025), the case does not fit any of the Backun bass clarinets — Alpha or Q — without major modifications of the internal foam blocks. I have notified the relevant authorities (you can too), and hopefully there will be a foam block redesign in the very near future. (Thanks to Tom in SC for pointing this out. I was unaware of the problem since my personal Bonna bass clarinet double case works just fine...but it's apparently an old design.)
This case DOES fit all low C Royal Global, Buffet Prestige & Tosca (except for the note above about the early-design Buffet Prestige with the long lower joint), Uebel, and Selmer bass clarinets.

It's a one in a million find!! I was looking for a new case because mine was plagued by humidity fungi and they were going to greatly affect my bass clarinet. Lucky me that i found this case in this website and couldn't be more grateful for all these features it offers for the care of the instrument. Rating 100/10, super recommended!!
I recently received the Marcus Bonna Bass Clarinet and Clarinet Case and I am loving it. I also have been able to fit a Leblanc « swan neck » alto clarinet in the case instead of the Bb which is making clarinet choir rehearsals so much easier.
I bought this for my standard Jupiter bass clarinet and it fits great! I really liked the ability to move the foam block around and customize it to exactly how I want it! Came with extra goodies and great customer service when I put the wrong email down (he fixed it in two minutes and was a sweetheart!). Definitely going to visit this site again!!!
I got the double case, not primarily because I wanted to use it for both my bass and soprano Bb, but because is has much more storage than the single case and is STILL incredibly small! I love the movable pieces that let me customize that space for my needs. Michael went above and beyond to make sure that my purchase was exactly what I needed and wanted. Fantastic people with expert knowledge!
This is a wonderful case! I have the MB triple case for three clarinets and love it. Now my low C bass has the same cradling as my other clarinets. The fact that the case carries another clarinet is great for when I play soprano or Eb along with the bass.
It took a while to figure out how to correctly fit the upper joint of my Buffet Prestige in the case without impinging the keys. Pictures helped a little, but I wonder if Selmer and Buffet upper joints might fit differently. The included manual was only good for fitting the carrying straps.
Overall, you really can't beat this case for its intended purpose, and it fits in overhead airplane compartments. I got one in yellow, which makes it instantly recognizable in a sea of black cases.
Ecstatic with the case, massive upgrade for my horn. Disclaimer though is that some arts and crafts are required for the top of the top joint if you have a Backun Q and likely Alpha. The register mechanism is different than the Selmer so you have to do a bit of cutting with an Xacto to get the top joint to fit. Hopefully future iterations will have the notch out for the Backun
Excellent case - secure, light, and significantly more compact than my BAM Classic. The only downside is that the very day the case arrived, I received notice that earspasm was now carrying the *new and even lighter* ultra-compact Low C Bonna case. So now I have to agonize over whether I should get that one. In any case (see what I did there?), you can't go wrong with an MB bass case from earspasm!
I love Marcus Bonna cases, and when I heard there was an available Low C Bass Clarinet case by Marcus Bonna, I got very exctited! My excitement was warranted. This case is terrific, and at a terrific price. I love ordering from Earspasm, and let's face it, Michael is the best! He always has competitive prices, which is impressive to see from a small business. Love it!
This case is amazing in every way and perfectly suits my needs. Thanks Mike and MB!
Honesty, quality, and an unsurpassable level of expertise. That's all anyone needs to know. Amazeballs indeed.
If this isn't one of the best cases out there, I don't know what is. I got mine near the start of the year, and immediately loved the modular storage. The Velcro surface on the back of the case as an extra useable surface is a great touch, as is the sheer abundance of (completely adjustable) compartment space to keep reeds, mouthpieces, and the like. The sheet music pouch has a ton of space to work with as well, and the handles / straps are padded with material that won't get uncomfortable to hold. And as the description says, my clarinets fit inside completely suspended from the padding! Long, bumpy walks, bus rides, and carpools to the performance hall on campus won't be a problem anymore.
Plus, I have to say, the Earspasm logo is a nice bonus. There are a bunch of viewers in my school's clarinet studio, and I'm sure they'll find it as awesome as I do!
Look no further; it's the best out there! As others have mentioned, this case is a major upgrade, especially when compared to the standard royal global cases. The benefit here is it stands vertically when set down, and stays flat when opening the case, not to mention the straps in any configuration are incredibly comfortable. What sets this apart is its versatility--it can hold my B-flat along with the Bass (and a gazillion accessories) print and digital music alike. The only downside so far is that the Boveda sticky tabs have lost their adhesiveness--nothing a little Velcro can't easily resolve, thanks to the case's modular design. Honestly, I can't recommend this case enough. It's a must-have for any musician on the move!
I've had my case for a few months now, and it's been a serious upgrade from the standard case that came with the Buffet Prestige 1193. All parts feel very secure, there are tons of corners for accessories, the removable music pouch is clutch, and the backpack straps are comfortable. What I love about wearing it as a backpack, as opposed to the standard case, is that the center of gravity is balanced and the case doesn't go up above my head in an awkward way. I can stand/sit around with it for hours -- like, say, in Toronto Airport when all the flights get cancelled. Which brings me to the next great point: travel is easy, as advertised. I bought this case knowing I had upcoming air travel over several flights in different sized planes, and the case fit in the overhead compartment of all of them with no issues. I would definitely still recommend boarding the planes first (paying for economy+ if necessary), and simply not drawing attention to yourself as you go through all the checkpoints, but the most I needed to do to make the case fit was slide over someone's backpack, and all was well. I will absolutely buy this case again if I ever find myself the owner of two bass clarinets.
Great case. It is well-designed and manufactured. I've already used it regularly for a pit orchestra gig,
I purchased this case a few days ago. My original case is nearly 20 years old and was very tired, inside and out. This case piqued my interests. I've always been a fan of MB cases. They are everywhere and represent a high level of ingenuity and craftsmanship. I initially balked at the price but compared to other bass cases on the market that are not modular, lack the crazy amount of storage, and are only capable of carrying a single instrument, the value of this case is well worth it. I like that the case can fit all sorts of extras (screwdriver set, extra mouthpiece, reed gear, etc.) and also comes with a giant removable pouch for music in the front! I did not use the shoulder strap because between the backpack straps and handle I think I'm good. The case feels secure and robust as a backpack and the instrument fits very snugly. The colors can't be beat either, no more boring black! The only modification I might make to mine is to slice a small bit of foam to give one of the bridge keys a bit more clearance on the upper joint. Michael, thank you for being so kind and helpful in your emails. Highly recommended!
Great case!
I love this case. After using a Wiseman Model A triple case for 5 years I've switched over to this Marcus Bonna double case. I've done so for a couple of reasons.
1: I don't play a lot of A clarinet nowadays. My career trajectory has gone from hopeful orchestral musician to composer-performer and contemporary music doesn't call for A clarinet like orchestral music does.
2: The MB case suspends all of the joints from the case, which my Wiseman didn't.
3: The form factors are comparable while the MB case gives me more storage. Some things I could not fit in my Wiseman case that I can in the MB case: iPad, Kooiman Thumb Rest, page turner pedal, belt strap, base of my carbon fiber stand (which only fit in my wiseman if I didn't have my A in). I could easily fit my laptop in the music pouch as well.
In addition, despite the cases being listed as similar weights (9.5 pounds empty for the MB, approx. 10 pounds for the Wiseman) this case feels remarkably lighter when using the backpack straps (my preferred method). Thank you Mike for shipping this out super quickly!
This case is gorgeous. I purchased the grey with black trim. My horn is snug and sound. Plenty of room for accessories. I'm not a "backpack" carrier but like the over the shoulder strap. Thank you for recommendation!
This case really is a thing of beauty. It comfortably holds a Bb and bass clarinet with enough room for music and accessories. It's easy to transport with a shoulder strap and backpack straps. It's a little pricey so it took me a while to convince myself to upgrade my standard Buffet case, but now that I've done it I'm super-happy with it.
Absolutely love this case, the inside configures to fit my clarinet, flute, or soprano sax. Also easily fits in the overhead compartments on planes! Love the colors too
I've had the case for a few weeks now and have used it for a gig where I happened to need the storage for a B-flat. The case works wonderfully! I love the case! Highly recommend. And Mike shipped it quickly. I didn't have any problems.
Recently got the case. It works really well! Kind of heavy but still about the same weight of the case that comes with the instrument but now you have 2 instruments in there with less space taken. If you have some crafting skills you can also make inserts (I'm making them out of EVA foam, which is what MB uses) to turn this into a triple case (there's totally enough room in there). Hopefully MB starts selling the inserts soon so that people can just buy them without the extra work.
Awesome case! It balances so well. So many other cases are too top-heavy and end up hurting my back after hauling it around for a while, but this case has most of the weight at my tailbone area and feels so natural. I love that it can hold a clarinet as well -- either A or B-flat (or probably E-flat) because of the adjustable inserts. Everything fits so well inside and out. Also, the zip-off pocket on the outside is amazing for someone like me who often travels with a laptop! Just zip it off and run it through at airport security. On that note, it also fits well in overhead bins on airlines. Some other far-more-expensive cases might fit better on teeny tiny planes, but this works great for that as well.
Overall, a great case at a great price! I'm glad I was picky enough to hold off on getting a new case -- this one is a definite winner!
The case ist perfect. Now I can take the Bass Clarinet with me on my bicycle what I didn't dare to do with the original case.
Fast and convenient delivery to Germany.
I bought this a *while* ago but I figured I'd drop a review here. This case is awesome! Love the purple color! Really keeps my Kessler instrument snug and protected, as well as my Buffet Bb being able to fit in here. It's great so I don't need to store two cases in my instrument locker out at my school. Saves me a lot of space. It'll come in handy when I (someday) upgrade to a wood bass for sure. The purchase experience was great as well and the case arrived in perfect shape.

Love it! Great layout for horns and accessories. Great space for "stuff" too. . Easy to carry and USE the backpack option-often times they are awkward, especially for smaller players, ie, most women. Thank you Mike!
My bassoonist son has had an MB case for years. Ahh, what a relief to finally cure my case envy!
This case. I mean, this case...smh!
This is hands down the most awesome case I have ever owned. It is so comfortable on your back, the instruments suspended away from the padding *chef's kiss*, the material is quality, the sturdiness is quality, the protection is quality, the color selection is on point...I could go on. This is quickly turning into my favorite case. It is worth every penny! Get it! Do it!
