Extra-Large 62% Instrument Case Humidity Pack (320g)

Extra-Large 62% Instrument Case Humidity Pack (320g)

For the driest of climates, and/or the dead of winter, this 320-gram pack will keep your instrument case at ~48% humidity. Yes, it is a 62% pack, but here's the deal: your case ain't airtight (unless you have a Lomax Pelican case), so you need to account for, um, "leakage."

During the winter of 2023, I tested one of these in my own cases, with one of my (personal) Selmer bass clarinets (which is stored in a Wiseman case, for those keeping score). I threw in a hygrometer, and put it in my studio. And I checked it after a week...and after a month...and after 4 months. The pack was still soft (there's liquid in the pouch) and the humidity hovered between 45% and 50%. Since the ideal humidity for an instrument is right in that range, I was satisfied. My instrument didn't crack (thank goodness)—but more to the point, the rods didn't bind, so everything played perfectly. All. Winter. Long.

And it's still going strong after 8 months.

Now, I use the 58% pack as well, but they do not last as long (because they're 1/5 the size). Note, this would be overkill for a Bb clarinet case or even a double-case, but for a bass clarinet case, it's perfect.

Now you might be asking: what happens if it breaks? Won't I get a mess in my case? And the answer is: Yes, if it breaks, you will have a mess in your case. That said, the pouch is sturdy, and I have not had one break or leak yet. But, I'd be remiss if I didn't say "be careful what you put by this product. put those reed knives and screwdrivers elsewhere please."
