But Would She Remember You? — Sheet Music and Electronics (Bass Clarinet)

I performed this piece during my auxiliary clarinet recital while completing my master’s degree in 2019. The recital featured E♭ and bass clarinet, and I was looking for bass clarinet repertoire that was different from the standard literature. It was also my first experience performing with electronics.

After reading the performance instructions and listening to the piece, I decided it would be the perfect way to end the recital. The combination of bass clarinet and audio creates a unique and engaging atmosphere. To enhance the effect, I dimmed the recital hall to near darkness. I sat at the back of the hall with only a stand light illuminating the music.

To avoid spoiling the experience for future performers and audiences, I’ll simply refer to the performance instructions rather than describe them in detail. For the ending, I followed those instructions and enlisted a friend to help create the final effect. When it was over, the audience sat in complete silence, unsure whether the piece had ended or how to react. It was one of the most memorable performance experiences I’ve had.

If you’re considering this piece, play it. It’s very approachable technically, emotionally rewarding, and unlike anything else I’ve performed.

I never reviewed this hoping someone would describe it better, but it was time. Lots of compliments were given of this piece after the performance.
