Concert and Contest Collection for Bass Clarinet (backing tracks)

Concert and Contest Collection for Bass Clarinet (backing tracks)

The Concert and Contest Collection for Bass Clarinet (lovingly called “The Rubank Book” in my house) is a terrific collection of beginning and intermediate bass clarinet solos, first published in 1973 by Rubank (now Hal Leonard)

For the first time in 40 years there is finally a recording of this stuff. I got the book in 1979 when I was 10 years old and 6 months into learning the bass clarinet. I eventually played through about half of it over the course of the next 3 years. (But to be to be totally honest, I only played a few of these for the very first time when I was preparing this recording!)

Each of the downloads below includes both a performance of the piece with Bass Clarinet and Piano, and a recording of just the piano part to play along to (with a metronome counting in one measure before it starts).

Just like Suzuki violin books, only better.

Amazing to play along with a rock star! It's like singing with the radio

Amazing to play along with a rock star! It's like singing with the radio. This has been very helpful for my practicing. Highly recommended.

Studying becomes fun

These recordings (with and without solo) are beautiful. Really helpful in studying. While the notes are not that difficult to play (no super fast virtuoso show pieces here), the challenge is to play as steady and beautifully as possible. And that makes it a very useful and fun experience. Thank you so much Michael!

Thank you, Michael!

I am very far from actually playing these at contest, a senior citizen, in fact. But I find them helpful and encouraging because you get to play with accompaniment to perfect your technique and you can hear his interpretation of how it should be played. Great learning tools. And at no expense! His generosity is notable!

Great tool!

I LOVE that I found this awesome resource for my students! To be able to rehearse at home with the accompanist is a huge win!

This should be paid for…

I would have happily paid for these recordings. It’s great to have recordings of this collection of works to get an idea of what they should sound like. Easy to download and listen to on the go. Firmly added into my playlist.

I would like to thank Michael! I just bought a bassclarinet and love playing it. He is promoting this wonderful instrument so well and offering the play alongs is very helpful. I didn't play the clarinet for 30 years and now I can't stop playing. Thank you!

I cannot believe you offer these tracks free of charge, especially the accompaniment-only ones. The quality of the recordings is excellent and your beautiful, lyrical playing has been a wonderful resource to show my student the depth of tone that can be achieved on the bass clarinet. There are plenty of wonderful clarinet recordings available online to show students, but not bass clarinet, and for that, I cannot thank you enough. Not to mention the bonus points of pretty much the entire book being part of the AMEB (Australia) music syllabus and you have provided recordings I can have my student add to their playlists done by a professional, not another kid! I also love your YouTube channel and have found many of your videos to be extremely helpful in teaching my student. I'm a flute-trained, woodwind teacher in rural Australia and your videos and resources have been super helpful. I am so glad and grateful I stumbled onto your page!

Earspasm is more than your typical online store with honest prices and quality products. It is an experience on its own. Michael has differentiated his brand by adding lots of resources in YouTube, from full reviews on products, lessons on whatever you may think of in the world of clarinets, entertaining videos to one of my favorites, playing duets with him. Another nice treats are the free downloads of sheet music and MP3's to play along. Earspasm does thing different and better. Michael puts lots of passion in his work and do care for the community of clarinetist. Kudos to Michael and his team!

I really appreciate the time taken to produce these tracks. I'm a very amateur bass clarinettist (just 3 months in...) and having something like this is SO useful. Thank you.

Any free high-quality playable sheet music is appreciated by me. These may be fun to throw together by myself with Audacity or something. Thank you, Michael.

These tracks are the perfect marriage for the gem of solos in the Rubank Bass Clarinet book.

They are ideal for my students as they prepare for solo festival adjudications, and for their student recital because they can understand how the piano accompaniment fits with their solo prior to actually working with an accompanist. Thank you soooo much for this and everything you do for music education (not just for clarinet/bass clarinet players).

Wow. Free is always good, but little did I know when I downloaded your recordings of backing tracks for Contests and Concerts for the Bb Bass Clarinet. After I listened to the first selection I immediately ordered the hardcopy of the backing tracks downloads. The book is perfect. The pieces I have played matched perfectly with the backing track.

I am delighted with my purchase. Highly recommend your online store to every clarinet musican.
