Légère European Cut Clarinet Reeds

Légère European Cut Clarinet Reeds

Légère reeds have come a LONG way since I first tried them about 15 years ago, and even since I made a video about them 6 years ago (see below). I gotta say, compared to Vandoren reeds, they're pretty much neck-and-neck. To me, Vandoren reeds have more of a "reed" feel, with a bit of a simulated reed texture in the mouth, where Légère reeds definitely feel smoother, and more "plastic-y."

Kind, yet opinionated people like you have written me long emails about how much they love (or hate) these reeds compared to how much they love (or hate) Vandoren VK1 reeds. (By the way, I really appreciate all of you who wrote.) And so I decided to carry these as well. Why not? About half of our customers like these better than VK1's.

Now, I do not carry all of the Légère varieties — I'm not a fan of the Classic or the Signature cuts at all — but I do like these European Cut reeds, and the new French Cut reeds.

Oh, and unlike Vandoren VK1 reeds, Légère has an exchange program — just fill out this form on Légère's site.

These reeds on this page, are not returnable (well, not to us, but again you can exchange them with Légère.)

BEST Reeds on the Market

I have been using Legere reeds exclusively since September 2023, although I have tried other synthetic reeds. Until that time, I used Vandoren reeds exclusively--V12 and V21, but tried others on occasion. After reeding (pun intended) many reviews, and talking with many clarinetists, I decided to give Legere reeds a try, and all I can say is that I wish I had done this earlier. Legere reeds are the best synthetic reeds available today. They are consistent at any strength, and play right out of the box. They need absolutely no adjusting (compared to cane reeds), and can last many months. And there is one bonus that is often ignored. Legere reeds are 35-40% less expensive than other synthetic reeds from other companies. Any serious clarinetist or saxophonist should consider trying Leger reeds, and make their own comparison between Legere and competing cane reeds. In the end, I believe that you will find that Legere reeds are as good, and more likely far superior than any reed available today.
