Launched in 1993 to answer the demand of some American jazz musicians. The V16 has a thicker tip than the traditional Vandoren reeds and a longer palette. Sound: more brilliant, more percussive, particularly well adapted to all the new styles of music. V16 reeds have a medium-thick heart—thickest of all the jazz cuts (so, more than JAVA but less than Traditionals), with a profile designed for producing a strong attack with a deep, rich sound. They play quite a bit harder than other Vandoren jazz cuts.
Feel free to buy single reeds—I don't charge a premium for breaking up a box, so you can just buy a few, or mix and match. Seriously no one else does this.
For those doing math, I price these reeds as one-fifth of a normal box of 5 reeds. But you don't need to buy a box to get this discount!

It is great to be able to buy an assortment of reeds to try without having to buy multiple boxes. I am new to Bass Clarinet, and this is helping me find the right combination of reeds and mouthpiece.
The V16 tenor sax reed is now my go to reed for my bass clarinet. It holds up well to long rehearsals and sounds clear throughout an evening of playing. My V12 bass clarinet reeds needed to be swapped out more often. Don't let the label scare you away; the tenor sax reeds are the same size as bass clarinet reeds. It opens up a lot of choices. Find one that works for you.
