Rovner LGX Bass Clarinet Ligature
Rovner LGX Bass Clarinet Ligature
The Rovner LGX, to me, is a hybrid ligature. It's fabric-based, it has a metal cradle that touches the reed—but not a stiff one like the Versa series, and it has the heft of two massive metal bars that hold it to the back of the mouthpiece. On the inside, it has 28 metal "fingers" that adapt to the shape of the bark on your cane reed (or the plastic on your plastic reed — hey, I don't judge), yet are flexible/springy enough to have a little "give" to them. The result is a ligature that has a lot of headroom for volume, because the cradle can vibrate with the reed when played at very loud dynamics. That's my theory at least, and I'm sticking to it.
This is my personal favorite of the Rovner ligatures I carry, but it's a little more expensive than the rest. If you want something a little cheaper, my second-fave is the Versa-X

Listen and compare Rovner ligatures!
All of these recordings were made with the same reed, and the exact same reed-placement on the mouthpiece, so that you can more easily hear the differences between ligatures (instead of differences between reeds!)

I immediately enjoyed using this ligature much more than the classic Rovner! I really like the way it cradles the reed.
I'm more than satisfied with my purchase of the Rovner LGX Bass Clarinet Ligature from Earspasm. I'm a a fairly new bass clarinetist, with less than two years experience. I have a new horn, purchased this last Spring. Michael's analysis and reviews of ligature options was very helpful in helping me choose a ligature.
Once I made my order, I felt very comfortable with the correspondence I had with Earspasm. The delivery date was very reasonable, and I got the product BEFORE the due date.
As a new player, I'm still experimenting with mouthpiece/reed/ligature combinations. The LGX is working out quite well, in that process.
Thank you Michael and Earspasm!
So far I find this ligature easy to use and gives great sound with my legere reeds
