Rovner LGX Bb Clarinet Ligature
Rovner LGX Bb Clarinet Ligature
The Rovner LGX, to me, is a hybrid ligature. It's fabric-based, it has a metal cradle that touches the reed—but not a stiff one like the Versa series, and it has the heft of two massive metal bars that hold it to the back of the mouthpiece. On the inside, it has 28 metal "fingers" that adapt to the shape of the bark on your cane reed (or the plastic on your plastic reed — hey, I don't judge), yet are flexible/springy enough to have a little "give" to them. The result is a ligature that has a lot of headroom for volume, because the cradle can vibrate with the reed when played at very loud dynamics. That's my theory at least, and I'm sticking to it.
This is my personal favorite of the Rovner ligatures I carry, but it's a little more expensive than the rest. If you want something a little cheaper, my second-fave is the Versa-X

As someone who's been trying to get into a lower resistance setup, this has become my new favorite ligature. It feels even less resistant than any of my other ligatures, yet it doesn't feel like I lose nearly as much control over my sound as I do with other low resistance ligatures. As a bonus, being made of such a flexible material has let me avoid fit problems that I've had on some thinner reeds (mostly legere European cuts or similar) on some of my metal ligatures. Overall, this has become my go-to ligature.
