D'Addario Organic Reserve Tenor Sax Reeds
D'Addario Organic Reserve Tenor Sax Reeds
Note: These are priced per reed. One of 'em. (Not a box. Though you're welcome to buy 10 of them, and I may just throw in the box for free)
Full disclosure: I'm a clarinet guy. I don't play tenor.
But I've been impressed enough with D'Addario's clarinet reeds that I'm willing to vouch for what they're doing as a company. When they bought Rico in 2004 (fun fact: they asked Vandoren to go in on the purchase together, and Vandoren passed), they didn't just slap a new logo on the boxes. They invested in digital manufacturing, tighter tolerances, and converted their cane plantations in France and Argentina to certified organic farming — no pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, paper reed holders instead of plastic.
The Reserve line is their answer to the Vandoren Traditional: thinner blank, unfiled cut, designed to be versatile across styles. These are boxes of 5, not 10, which is standard for tenor.
If your sax-playing friends (or students, or customers) have been loyal to a certain French brand since forever, this might be worth a shot. At worst, it's one reed.
