So, this makes Selmer the O.G. reed maker.

I'm actually a big fan of these reeds and have been playing them pretty regularly — I haven't given up my favorite V12s, but these are really, really good, too.

I did some acoustic testing on these reeds, so I can put into words how they're different from Vandoren reeds, since I figure most of you are wondering. Here's what I came up with, after looking at things like Spectral Centroid and Harmonic Ratio to describe the two reeds. Here we go.

Overall, the data showed that the Selmer Reed produces a brighter, more refined clarinet sound with cleaner harmonics but a mellower fundamental. The Vandoren Reed produces a woodier, more complex clarinet sound that's slightly darker overall but with more textural richness. My ears agree.

But since these may be new to you, as always, feel free to buy single reeds—I don't charge a premium for breaking up a box, so you can just buy a few, or mix and match. Seriously no one else does this.

For those doing math, I price these reeds as one-tenth of a normal box of 10 reeds.
